Progress continues, with many remarkable Arab women shattering barriers in their fields in 2024. Here are six who achieved historic firsts last year.
Kaylia Nemour

Nemour made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning Algeria’s first Olympic gymnastics title, securing gold on the uneven bars, and becoming the first African gymnast to do so at the Olympic Games. The 18 year old gymnast began her career in France at four years old. In 2022, she made her senior competitive debut for Algeria at the Arab Championships and won two gold medals and a silver medal. In 2023, she won gold at the African Championships, qualifying for the 2023 World Championships in Belgium, where she won silver in the uneven bars category, becoming the first African gymnast to claim a world championship medal. In November 2024, Nemour was featured on Forbes Middle East’s 30 Under 30 list.
